CPA & ACCOUNTING PRACTICE SALES

Your client relationships need a transition plan.

Selling an accounting firm means looking beyond annual billings. Understand who serves the clients, what work repeats and what the next owner will need from you.

THE SHORT ANSWER

What will buyers consider in a Florida accounting practice sale?

Buyers need to understand the service mix, recurring engagements, client concentration, staffing, owner responsibilities and proposed transition. Explain seasonal and ongoing work separately, with records supporting the earnings discussion. A publicly sourced sold CPA-firm listing identifies Mitchell Weinberger as listing broker; it does not predict another firm’s result.

A useful next step. Organize revenue by service, staff roles and your preferred client handover before discussing a structure.

Explain the revenue behind the practice.

Separate tax, accounting, bookkeeping and advisory work where relevant. Organize recurring fees, seasonal work, client concentration and changes in pricing. Buyer questions should be answered with records, not an unsupported claim about retention.

Discuss staff capacity, partner responsibilities, owner compensation and replacement costs. There is no universal percentage of revenue or EBITDA multiple that establishes every firm’s value.

Decide how a client handoff could work.

An acquiring practice and an individual practitioner may propose different transitions. Discuss your willingness to remain involved, employee roles and the terms attached to any deferred payment.

Your attorney and CPA should review confidentiality, professional restrictions, client information, tax effects and the transaction structure. Share client-level information only through an appropriate agreed process.

A completed CPA transaction you can verify.

Sunbelt’s public CPA-firm page is marked sold and identifies Mitchell Weinberger as the listing broker. It is one documented transaction, not a guarantee of another firm’s outcome.
